The London Metal Exchange is the world centre for the trading of industrial metals – the majority of all non-ferrous metal futures business is transacted on our platforms. Last year, 178 million lots were traded, equating to $18 trillion and 4 billion tonnes notional, with a market open interest high of 1.8 million lots.

The London Metal Exchange is the world centre for industrial metals trading. Most of the world’s non-ferrous metals business is conducted on our three trading platforms: LMEselect (electronic), the Ring (open outcry) and the 24-hour telephone market.

The LME publishes a set of daily reference prices that are used the world over by industrial and financial participants for referencing, hedging, physical settlement, contract negotiations, margining and portfolio evaluations. Beyond this, the LME price increasingly reflects the value of responsibly sourced metal.
