Hannibal Applewood was a one-time character in the Season 2 episode "Troublemaker." A school teacher who is brought in to get disciplinary issues under control at Walnut Grove School, the role of Applewood was played by Richard Basehart.

In her place is Hannibal Applewood - a strict disciplinarian whom students call "Mr. Crabapple" in disdain. Acting on a false tip from Mrs. Oleson , Mr. Applewood quickly singles out Laura as the class troublemaker.

When Charles returns to the schoolhouse, Mr. Applewood asks why he's back again. Charles explains that he brought the homework which Laura forgot. However, there is nothing in his hands.

The school board decides to hire a new teacher, Hannibal Applewood, to handle the problem. Applewood develops a dislike for Laura and she unjustly bears the brunt of his quick temper. When Charles sees Applewood’s behavior in class, he calls a school board meeting.
