Aug 17, 2024 · The top of the rod was 1.58mm "proud" of the reference plane. I know that the center of the rod represents the tip of the drill bit, so the tip of a drill bit will be (12.7/2) - 1.58mm = 4.77mm below my reference plane. Then I switched things around a bit. I removed the adjuster and set my caliper to 4.77mm so its "tail" extended that far.

Vevor Drill Bit Sharpener Trials - Split Point Adjustment
Feb 18, 2024 · Vevor offers a set of 25 for k$45 US. Others are upwards of $450. A couple posts above mention Amazon. If the intended use is with a Vevor style drill bit sharpener, which uses the narrow end for gripping some drill bits, you'd have to be sure the collets aren't drilled out on the narrow end.

Mar 22, 2023 · Pop the drill in the holder, line up the flutes, set the depth, tighten and then it's just spin the bit until you don't hear the diamond wheel shaving off material any longer. Drill comes right out of the sharpener and into the drill press and always cuts nicely. Long, clean curls.

Mar 21, 2023 · I've played with the new drill sharpener quite a bit now. I'm still learning. This machine works fine no matter what helix. It aligns on the lip. It does 118⁰ bits beautifully. It does 135⁰ easily and splits the points nicely. It does not copy the relief of a factory ground split point. They drill very well with perfect curls on both sides.

Feb 18, 2024 · Leapfrogging from an earlier thread where the Vevor drill bit sharpener came up, "Are Drill Bits Consumables?", I was intrigued and interested enough to get one. I was hoping for a nice complement to my Tormek drill bit sharpening system and interested in the split-pointing feature. I've had it for a couple days and have tried it out a bit.

Feb 18, 2024 · Turns out it works perfectly in the smaller Vevor sharpener and allows me to sharpen drills up to 11/16 inch @ 135 degree angle including splitting the points. Anything larger and the abrasive wheel is not wide enough to sharpen the full width of the flute edge. It can split the edge on a 3/4 drill just can't sharpen it.

Feb 19, 2024 · P.S. After posting this, I went looking for the article, by Joseph Mazoff, on drill point geometry I meant to include in my response to Gene T45 about tips for Tormek drill sharpening. I found some very interesting discussion about split points, on the veracity of split points on drills larger than 1/2" and differences in geometry:
