Use basilisk and banshee as special and particular encounters. They don’t fit well as normal KILL THE BAD GUY encounters and they aren’t supposed to. Last time I used a basilisk it was just a creature living in another monsters “lair” and it wasn’t really aggressive unless provoked.

Honestly it'd probably be a downtime activity between adventures. A young basilisk isn't going to be very strong. If you try to use it in combat it'll probably die. And most cities or towns wouldn't allow one in. It's not going to suddenly grow from newborn to adult in the couple weeks or months of in game time that can last dozens of sessions.

I'd rule that they don't since a basilisk's petrifying gaze isn't passive, it's an instinctive sort of attack. The basilisk forces the target to make the saving throw, meaning it can choose not to. Since the basilisk is dead it can't do any forcing of saving throws anymore, ergo it shouldn't be petrifying anyone anymore.

Aug 10, 2020 · Basilisk stomach juices reverse petrification, no processing needed. That's how they feed - turn someone to stone, eat them, turn the bits back into flesh in their stomachs. Just slice their guts open and hold your nose against the smell. If you need a check, probably Survival or Nature to extract the stomach juices.

Like, I want to put emphasis on the fact that the Basilisks piercing gaze is actually quite dangerous and is the key to defeating this creature.
