This guitar is similar to the famous J-200 but does not share all the higher-end details and features. The J-100 Extra (or Xtra) was introduced in 1991 as a Mahogany bodied version of the J-100. It also featured different binding styling.

The Gibson J-100 originally dates back to 1939 - where the Super Jumbo 100 was introduced as a less ornate (and cheaper) version of the SJ-200. The SJ-100 was made from 1939 to 1943. Gibson reintroduced the model, with a slightly deeper body, as the J-100 from 1972 until 1975.

Nov 24, 2008 · Here's a brief write-up and pix of a first-year production SJ 100, and here's one of a “prototype” SJ-100. The SJ 100 was apparently a very popular guitar and considered a good value for the money.

This Gibson J-100 is loud and has an excellent sounding low end projection while also being crisp and clear in the mids and highs. This guitar will come complete with the original hardshell case that is also in excellent condion.

The GIBSON J-100 XTRA was introduced around 1991 and was based on the late 1930s Gibson SJ-100 model. The first ones had mahogany back, sides and neck, but you also see maple (1999 to 2005) or bubinga (2005 onwards) back and sides.

GIBSON J-100 Xtra Cutaway - similar to J-100 Xtra, except has single round cutaway, tortoiseshell pickguard, mustache bridge with rosewood pins, transducer pickup/preamp system, available in Antique Walnut and Vintage Sunburst finishes, mfg. 1994-98.

This J-100 has a spruce top with mahogany back and sides, with rosewood for the fretboard and bridge. This guitar is in great shape with some indents and marks, hardware tarnish, a blemish on the back binding and a touch-up on the headstock, rated at 8.5/10.
