California is seeking federal emergency aid from Trump and Congress as it continues to recover from the fires, with several blazes still not fully extinguished. The Palisades fire was at 79 percent containment with an estimated 23,448 acres burned as of Friday night, according to Cal Fire.

Prior to arriving in California Friday, Trump told reporters in North Carolina that the Federal Government would not provide aid to Los Angeles recovery efforts unless new voter ID laws were passed and changes were made to the state's water management system.

Greeted by Gov. Gavin Newsom, President Trump landed in Los Angeles Friday afternoon to survey the devastation from the firestorms that swept through L.A. County. It was his first presidential visit since taking office — and a potentially contested one after his repeated threats to withhold federal aid to California.
