Huge swathes of the south east are expected to see blustery conditions over the next few days as the Met Office issued two yellow warnings for wind. A yellow warning for strong winds is in place for Kent and Sussex from 07:00 until 18:00 GMT on Thursday,

A rare, red warning has also been issued by Ireland's weather service ahead of the arrival of Storm Eowyn, warning of "severe, damaging and destructive gusts".

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “The strongest gusts are likely to be felt across parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, north-western Wales and western Scotland, where exposed sites could get gusts in excess of 80mph, which has the potential to cause impacts for those in these areas.

Multiple warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland from midnight on Thursday.

Weather warnings from the Met Office have been issued for all of the UK as Storm Éowyn approaches. A number of weather alerts will be in place in the coming days - including a rare amber warning for wind. Storm Éowyn is expected to bring strong winds and heavy downpours, as well as snow in some parts of Britain. Gusts reaching 90mph are expected.

Northern Ireland is set to be battered by Storm Éowyn at the end of this week, with weather experts warning that it'll bring strong winds, heavy rain and snow. Storm Éowyn has been named with disruptive winds likely for some on Friday and Saturday.

Storm Éowyn – pronounced "ay-oh-win" – and the fifth named storm of the season will undergo rapid development during Thursday as it moves across the Atlantic. It will be fuelled by a very powerful jet stream which is fast moving air high in the atmosphere where wind speeds are around 260mph (418km/h).

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for severe weather as the fifth named storm of the season hits the UK.

Storm Éowyn will bring ‘very strong winds’ as well as ‘heavy rain and snow for some’ places in the UK. Gusts in excess of 80mph could hit exposed coasts in Northern Ireland, northern England, northwestern Wales and western Scotland.
