While this storm won't produce blockbuster snow totals, it's notable for strong winds. Some areas in the Plains and upper Midwest will experience dangerous travel conditions.

"Confidence continues to increase in a band of heavy snow developing across the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will start as rain, and quickly transition to a heavy, wet snow, with snowfall rates of an inch per hour or greater," the NWS says.

The winter storm tracked from the mountain West to the Plains and upper Midwest with snowfall and high winds, contributing to whiteout conditions in some areas.
