Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family, have reached a $7.4bn settlement with US states to resolve a long-running legal saga involving the pain medication Oxycontin and its role in fuelling the opioid epidemic in the country.

Pennsylvania may receive up to $212 million over 15 years as part of a multi-state lawsuit settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, its owners, for their roles in the opioid overdose crisis.

State AGs have reached a new opioid settlement worth $7.4 billion with Purdue Pharma and its owners. The settlement does not give Sackler family members immunity from future opioid lawsuits.
