USD announced Thursday that nine year head coach Bob Nielson would be retiring from their football program. Nielson informed USD last year that he wasn’t sure how many more seasons he had before hanging up the whistle.

He won 100 games and two national championships during two five-year stints as head coach at UMD and also served nine years as the school's athletic director.
